Calypso Lagoon
Calypso Lagoon

For those who like their beaches scenic and bathed in a golden glow, the coast at Le Castella on the Southern Italian Riviera is sheer perfection!

Location, location, location really is the order of the day at VFI Overseas Property's stunning new Calypso Lagoon development.

Le Castella is famous for its recently restored and picturesque fortress on a small peninsula on a sliver of sand in the protected Capo Rizzuto. It is so beautiful at Le Castella that it has been designated an UNESCO World Heritage site ensuring that the coastline retains these stunning beaches fringed with fragrant forests.

The white sandy beach and the turquoise, transparent Ionian Sea are literally a stone's throw from Calypso Lagoon, a fabulous and ultra modern new development of just 14 upmarket and luxurious villas.

The architect has taken his inspiration for the site from the stories of the ancient history of this corner of the Mediterranean and has brought these stories up to date in bricks, mortar...and glass!

The first group of five luxury villas are inspired by the islands which centuries ago were sited just off the coast at Le Castella. These date back to the times of Pliny the Elder, who first discovered the area when he commanded the Roman Navy. He spent much of his spare time writing, studying and investigating the natural world and which he immortalised in his work, Naturalis Historis. One of the areas he wrote about was the coastline around Le Castella. The sea level was lower then and there were five small islands off the coast, the largest was Calypso.

In a fresh and innovative approach to design, the five island villas sit in their own turquoise 'seas' ... but this time they are not destined to disappear under the waves! The architect has used glass and soothing water to great advantage to create fabulous, very modern and luxurious homes where interior and exterior become as one. Each villa's entrance leads into an open plan interior with its own integral eating area. There is a large sitting room with fabulous views down to the beach. All five island villas are cooled in summer by an advanced air conditioning system and have a feature fireplace for cosy winter evenings...

The ground floor has its own guest suite leading out on to a large patio. To add an extra touch of luxury the architect has designed a sumptuous spa into the ground floor plan too.
On the first floor there are three further large bedrooms and two bathrooms, again with pretty verandas positioned to make the most of the gorgeous views. All the island villas enjoy the benefit of their own swimming pool, sauna and Jacuzzi set in beautiful Mediterranean gardens complete with their own private pathway down to the beach, which is just 70m away.

The Muse Villa are a group of nine new homes which again are the last word in comfort. They are named after the muse, or the sea nymphs whose playground was in the warm waters of the Ionian Sea! Pythagoras celebrated the muse with the building of special temple when he founded his school of mathematics in nearby Crotone.
The muse were free spirits and the style of the nine villas is open with glass balconies and verandas to allow more of the luminous Mediterranean light through into the large spacious rooms.

The ground floor has a luxury kitchen, a large living and dining room leading out on to verandas and a patio with its own integrated barbecue. There are 2 bedrooms with verandas and a balcony and two bathrooms on the first floor. A glazed staircase leads to the top floor with a fabulous loft bedroom and bathroom with its own veranda fitted out with a Jacuzzi and a sumptuous sun terrace.

The villas are all light and airy with top quality fittings, their own pools and a garden Jacuzzi. The sea is just 150m's walk away through lush Mediterranean gardens landscaped with specimen plants.

All 14 villas at Calypso Lagoon boast advanced green credentials. They have been designed to respect the environment and have advanced heating systems using the very latest geothermal technology. Rainwater is harvested on site to be used in the gardens and water from washing machines and bathrooms is treated and reused too.

The temperature in this divine area seldom drops below 15C in the winter months and home owners at Calyspo Lagoon can look forward to warm, sunny weather from March to November. Come summer the temperature is 25C plus which makes enjoying the beautiful white sandy beach such a pleasure and this warm weather continues until well into the autumn months. Food is another of the great pleasures of Calabria, which boasts a wide range of local dishes using delicious locally grown produce. The Tyrrhenian Sea is a rich source of sea food and the area is also famous for its spicy Njuda salami made with chillies and fresh pork as well as the creamy Pecorino cheese. The excellent, full bodied red Ciro wine is produced nearby too. Calypso Lagoon is a perfect place to relax and savour the delights of the Real Italy. The good news is that getting to this luxurious development is now easier than ever. Budget airlines fly from European cities into Lamezia Terme International airport. An excellent road system links down to Le Castella which is 90 minutes away.

Italian airlines also fly into Crotone Airport at Sant'Anna.
The airport, high on the Isola Capo Rizzuto plateau, is within quick and easy reach of the lovely Calypso Lagoon development.
All the major car rental companies are represented at the airport and many offer good discounts for advance bookings.
The airport is soon expected to welcome European budget airlines as part of the expansion of Calabria as a tourist destination.
